Freight on Rail Members

Freight on Rail is a partnership of the rail freight operators, Rail Freight Group, Network Rail, the transport trade unions and Transport 2000 working to promote the shift to rail freight. Our members are:

 

Unite logoUnite, the largest private sector trade union, a combination of AMICUS and the Transport and General Workers' Union, has a membership of over 2 million, with approximately 7,500 members employed in railway engineering.

ASLEF LogoASLEF was founded in 1880 and is the trade union for train drivers. ASLEF represents the overwhelming majority of train drivers and other train crew It has over 16,000 members employed in all train operating companies, freight companies, London Underground and some Light Rapid Transport.

Freightliner LogoThe Freightliner group is a major rail freight operator in Britain consisting of two activities. Freightliner Limited is Britain's biggest Intermodal freight transport operator. The company operates over 100 daily trains supported by a road fleet to provide Intermodal transport. Freightliner Heavy Haul Limited services the bulk freight market operating in the cement, coal, car, petroleum and waste markets as well as undertaking rail infrastructure haulage work for Network Rail.

Direct Rail Services LogoDirect Rail Services (DRS )is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), to provide the nuclear industry with a strategic rail transport service. Today DRS is a national rail freight operator providing a comprehensive range of services ranging from intermodal freight to third party maintenance and charter train, complete with a 24 hour control centre and engineering support network with its head office in the North West of England and depots extending from the South of England to the North of Scotland.

Network RailOn 3rd October, 2002, Network Rail completed the acquisition of Railtrack PLC. Network Rail is now the operating company responsible for maintaining the tracks, signals, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, level crossings and stations on the network.
