Another year of growth for rail freight

The latest National Rail Trends show another year of growth for freight in 2005 with net tonne-km hauled increasing by eight per cent in Quarter 3 ie October - December 2005 over the same quarter in the previous year. Coal and domestic intermodal markets showed the highest increases with 11.9 per cent increase for the latter. The final quarter for the year from January to March is expected to show significant increases over the same quarter the previous year.
